Frequently Asked Questions

Heating

The most common heating systems are forced-air furnaces, radiant heating systems, and heat pumps.

Look out for signs like no heat, the furnace not starting, unusual noises, if your furnace goes of and on and won’t reach desired temperature, or increasing energy bills. If you notice any of these issues, contact Northern Flare Heating and Air for professional heating repair.

Addressing heating system issues promptly reduces the risk of pipes freezing, minimizes energy waste, and enhances overall home comfort. No one wants their furnace to stop working on a -25 degree day.

A typical heating repair service usually takes a few hours to a full day. Factors that can affect the timeline include the complexity of the issue, the type of heating system (such as a furnace, boiler, fireplace or heat pump), the availability of replacement parts, the extent of the damage, and scheduling constraints

*It’s important to have space heaters in your basement in case your furnace breaks down, as it can take up to 24 hours for replacement parts.

DIY solutions are suitable for basic tasks like thermostat adjustments and replacements, filter replacements, or simple resets. However, for complex issues such as gas leaks, unusual sounds, or inadequate heat production, it’s best to contact a certified technician. You need a professional for a thorough assessment, and repair or replace to ensure safety and prevent extensive damage.

Air Conditioning

If you notice inadequate cooling, strange noises, frequent cycling  or if you see a freezing coil on top of your furnace, it might be time to call a professional.

If your air conditioning stops working during the summer heat, try these steps before calling for service:

  1. Check Thermostat Settings: Ensure the settings are correct and the system is set to “cool.”
  2. Inspect the Air Filter: A dirty filter can hinder performance. Replace it if necessary.
  3. Check Circuit Breakers and Switches: Make sure they are on and functioning properly.
  4. Clear Debris: Remove any debris around the outdoor unit and ensure vents are unblocked.

If these steps don’t fix the issue, contact Northern Flare Services for prompt assistance in Brooks and the surrounding areas. Taber and MD of Taber.

*If your unit is frozen up, shut it down immediately until Northern Flair can come to service it, to ensure you don’t cause further damage.

Natural Gas

Natural gas is odorless. To make the gas leak easier to detect a odorant called Mercaptan is added to create a distinct natural gas smell similar to sulphur or rotting eggs. The stronger the smell is, the more likely you have a gas leak. If you think you can smell natural gas contact Northern Flare Heating and Air immediately.
